Flag of Convenience: Flag waving in the time of Brexit

One of my documentary photography projects…
Flags are just pieces of cloth, but people turn them into powerful symbols full of often very contradictory meanings. The Union Jack has been a banner of Empire, a symbol of ‘Mod’, tainted with racism and the far-right, but rehabilitated as a fashion icon in the 90s with Cool Britannia, Brit Pop and the 2012 London Olympics. But with Brexit and the rise of nationalism here, and the election of Donald Trump in the USA, where will we end up if we follow the flag?
